"A Ballerina's Graphic Novel"
This book is about a young girl named Sienna, who has a strong passion for dancing. She was born in Puerto Rico, but moved to the New York as a child to pursue dance. Her parents were very supportive of her but showed it in different ways. Sienna's love for dance continued into her teenage years. She juggled both school and dance on a daily basis. Her family life became very difficult at times, as her parents argued constantly. Her parents would soon divorce and Sienna turned to dance to help her cope. Her love for dance was very strong and she performed in many different ballets. At age eighteen, Sienna had a terrible ankle injury and her dance career was put to rest. Instead of becoming miserable about her injury, Sienna moved on with her life and entered into college. In the end, Sienna still danced because it made her happy.
"To Dance" is a great book that identifies with a young girls life. The pictures throughout the book tell their own story and enhances the happiness and struggles Sienna faces.
